Anyone who has heard of the "big movement" therapy for PD will find this article interesting...we are trying it and will keep everyone posted... http://store.bottomlinesecrets.com/article.html?article_id=100002121 I wonder if it helps because the brain is literally re-lelarning how to walk in this huge, exaggerated way, or because any movement is good? Either way, we are loping around our street at night, under cover of darkness, in case anyone sees us and calls the police! |

That's a great article. My husband & I go to the gym 4x a week (he works with a trainer 2x a week) & we try & squeeze in some yoga which is extrememly beneficial. He and I both find yoga very restorative and we both get a great nights sleep. The exercise has helped a great deal. I also couln't help but chuckle after reading the article & then getting a visual of 2 people "loping" down the street at night! |

We just recently started doing the BIG program too. We got lucky ... the in-home therapist who has been working with my husband since he came home from rehab is trained in this program and the speech therapist is trained in the LOUD program. I guess if we wanted to go outside at night we could lope and yell at the same time! I was amazed the first day the PT was here. Ten minutes into the session he had my husband using his own body mechanics to stand straight up out of his chair with literally no assistance, human or otherwise. You could have knocked me over with a feather. So far it seems like a great program but the key is practice and my guy is more into quick fixes, which unfortunately don't exist in PD world. Still, I'm hopeful! |

Interesting. I know when I tell my dad to "take big steps" he can walk much more easily. Sue |
