CDC Announces Parkinson's 14th leading cause of death!
Here are the top 15: 1:Diseases of heart 2:Malignant neoplasms 3: Chronic lower respiratory diseases 4:Cerebrovascular diseases 5: Accidents (unintentional injuries) 6 Alzheimerís disease 7: Diabetes mellitus 8: Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis 9: Influenza and pneumonia 10 Intentional self-harm (suicide) 11: Septicemia 12: Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis 13: Essential hypertension and hypertensive renal disease 14: Parkinsonís disease 15: Pneumonitis due to solids and liquids....
Now you may ask..why is that so great?????
Now that the CDC acknowledges that it is a deadly disease, it can help free up money for research for a cure....It has helped in Alzheimer's research and helped to develop new treatments and more counseling efforts for families dealing with the disease. It also freed up government monies for hospice and caregiving monies through social agencies to those with the disease. Hopefully it can do the same for PD. I would like to see some type of progressive move in the cure area. Not rehashed treatments that have been on the books for over a quarter of a century but real progress in finding, at the very least, a treatment that would not be like a heroin of the prescription world. Not that the meds are addicting, but they are necessary for the PDer to live as normal a life as possible but have such horrendos side effects, and if stopped can throw the PDer into withdrawal worse than a heroin addict. We have now overtaken a spot for murder and/or cancer....Remember that in this day and age the big "C" isn't as deadly as it used to be...Why you may ask....because at one time it topped this list..and the cancer societies couldn't uphold their money rights if the disease was the number one cause of death. So monies were opened up and they actually had to DO something to bring it off the top ten...... So let's hope the same happens with PD...MJF and all the other research companies need to stand up now, get off the research gravy train and ante up some cure...or at least some better treatments....

Just an add on to this:
If you look at all the ones above PD; mostly all of them can present themselves to the person with PD when PD is not treated correctly or as a result of the disease itself...plus most folks dying of PD, die because of #15.....interesting.....

And please... this is good news for the caregiver also... it may help in getting more relief and more government funded counseling FOR the caregiver...it did for Alzheimer's and Cancer caregivers..as well as more aid for home caregiving....
