What is the maximum daily dosage of sinemet prescribed?

By LOHENGR1N On 2013.10.28 23:46
trapper, I guess it depends on the Doctor and how the Patient handles it. I read somewhere not long ago that conventional wisdom now days places it at between 600 to 800 mgs per day of levodopa per day (the carbidopa will vary depending on the combo involved 10/100, 25/100 or 25/250). Myself I'm on more than that I've taken the 25/100's two and a half pills five times a day for years now, so that's what..312.5/1250 daily or something like that.

My husband takes 1,350 mg/day. 1.5 25/100 sinemet every 2 hours from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.

At one time, he was on close to 3,000 mg, however. I think this was way too much and he had a psychosis event during this time.

trapper, I don't know what the "maximum recommended dose" of sinemet is but I do know that the MDs can and frequently do exceed recommendations to help combat PD symtoms. In my experience we were happy to be getting help but did not realize (and were not told) that devastating side effects could occur. At the height of crazy my husband was on 30 or more 25/100mg of sinemet daily and wanting more(along with amantadine way too much mirapex and tasmar). He is now on 10 tabs of 25/100 mg daily. We now have a balance we are trying to maintain.

I don't know what it is but I know my spouses MDS doesn't increase his dosage unless he sees a difference in his ability. He take 2 x 4 times. of 100/25 levodopa and carbidopa. The doctor wants to keep them in reverse for the future.
