About 5 days ago I had noticed my ringer finger would have a tremor in it. It is very noticeable and will make my whole hand shake. It only happens when my hand is at rest,and has also happened when taking a nap(actually woke me the other day) Today it has happened a few times in my thumb but not as noticeable,and even is starting in the left hand on the thumb. I am 32 years old and worried. Is a dr's appointment needed for this? Thanks for reading and any insight you have for me. |

| Yes, you need to see a physician. It could be a number of things and may not be a problem. Your degree of concern warrants an answer for you. Good luck! |

| I am going to make an appt this week. What is to be expected at the appt? I am still having my fingers shake,and on occassion my whole hand will twitch. I cried my eyes out this morning. |

| Hi Meg, If your Dr's appointment is with your regular Dr. they will probably refer you to see a neurologist. There are a number of conditions that my be your problem, then again it may be too much caffeine, it will take awhile to sort out. Meanwhile, it is just human nature to think the worse! Try to relax if you can. Right now you're doing all you can do, making the Dr's appointment. I wish We had a magic reply to calm your fears and soothe you until your appointment but We don't. | I only cried this morning because I had just woke up and my fingers started twitching and dancing around. I am not a coffee drinker but will have a can of pop on some days. I do tend to think the worst,but anyone would be that way. Just tonight sitting on the couch my ring finger went crazy and then my whole hand joined in on the fun. I do admit though,that having a finger move on it's own is a strange feeling. |

| Just wanted to add that I have the finger twitch on occasion too. The first time it happened I freaked out because my mom has Parkinson's. However, I do use my hands a lot and the kind of work I do requires that I have my hands extended upwards for long periods of time. The muscles get tired and my fingers (and sometimes whole hand) twitch as a result. Since it's upsetting you, it's good that you are getting it checked. |

You are wise to go get checked. I will share that several years ago I was convinced I had unstable angina, a heart condition which is not good. I had the classic pain, which was no doubt being exacerbated by the fact that I read on the internet constantly! I went to one of the best cardio docs in my town, had extensive and very expensive test done, only to have him announce to me that my heart was perfect. When I asked him about the chest pains I was having, he looked right at me and said "It's stress-take a motrin". I'll never forget the look he gave me, like, "why are you here? I have people with real problems, lady!!" I walked out of his office and have never had another chest pain since-it's incredible. I hope that this will be your experience also. Worry and stress make EVERYTHING worse, even if it is just bad breath! Please come back and let us know how everything went, this is a fabulous forum and we will be here to help you any way we can. |

Nuttymeg, I agree with everything the others have said. I only want to caution one thing, if your first visit is to your GP, and you are not satisfied with his diagnosis, do ask for a referral to a specialist. My sister-in-law accepted a diagnosis of PD from her GP, which was totally ridiculous. He should never have given such a diagnosis - totally out of his realm of expertise - and yet she accepted it and started taking meds. She called my husband who has pd for advice and he told her to get another opinion. Difficult to believe that anyone would accept such a serious diagnosis from a GP, however..... Trust your instincts, ask questions and don't accept a diagnosis if it doesn't feel/seem right. The more serious the diagnosis, the more one should ask for another opinion. | I haven't been able to get in to see the dr.I tried for yesterday and he wasn't available. I have noticed some days are good where there will only be a slight tremble. On Sunday I had the most of any day. My mom was visiting me and she saw my hand shake. It even went as far as feeling it in my forearm.But when I do get in to see him I will let you know. I have been having this tremor now for almost 2 weeks. |
