Topic mattress and back pain Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By happygranny On 2009.03.04 15:07
My husband has been complaing of very sore back especially when he wakes.

This was occuring before his Dx of PD last November '08 and his very fast spiral downhill. He now takes 3 Sinemet every three hours and a Sinemet 200/50 at night. Although it helps a lot, he still has a lot of discomfort and might need to raise his levels again soon.

A year prior to his DX we bought what we thought was a good mattress to help him. I think it is very comfortable and have no trouble with it despite back problems related to Fibromyalgia. He finds it very uncomfortable and thinks we need to get another new bed.

I would be happy to get what ever he needs to find comfort, but I wonder if this is PD related pain, would a new mattress help?

Has anyone had this kind of experience?

Thank you,

Jeannie

HI JEANNIE:

I KNOW MY FATHER USE TO COMPLAIN CONSTANTLY ABOUT PAIN WHILE IN BED.

I PERSONALLY DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH IT WAS MATTRESS RELATED OR HIS INABILITY TO GET COMFORTABLE ON HIS OWN. HE NEEDED ASSISTANCE IN BEING TURNED IN BED.

HOWEVER, BEFORE HE REACHED THAT POINT HE ALWAYS COMPLAINED ABOUT BEING IN PAIN DUE TO THE BED. I BELIEVE IT IS MORE PD RELATED THEN MATTRESS RELATED.

I also think it is more PD related. I would give my husband Extra Strength Tylenol every night and that seemed to help. Before you purchase a new mattress think about trying one of the memory foam pads to put on top of your current mattress. This was quite helpful to my husband.
