Recently I have noticed that my sweetie is gasping for air...kind of like one would do before taking a big breath to blow out candles. Is this something (another thing) that is PD related? It appears to be involuntary.

I believe it can be related to PD. The disease can involve the diaphram and the chest wall muscles. A good indicator of how much oxygen he is getting are the nail beds. If they are blue it is an indication that he is not getting enough O2. Also check when this happens - is it after he walks or does anything else requiring exertion. Good Luck!

Occasionally I have that problem. Seems like it is most likely to occur when I fall asleep on my back or in my lift chair vs sleeping on my sides. Bob

My Dad needs to take a deep breath sometimes. He is not gasping for air but the breath is noticeably deeper than usual.

My DIL does it too - -she's 23! They tell her it's just a "twitch" in her diaphragm. We saw in my granddaughter right from birth. Doesn't seem to effect them in any way-- blood oxygen levels were always ok when they were monitored, etc. I sometimes catch myself "forgetting" to breath when I'm very, very relaxed. Maybe the same type of thing, not necessarily related to the Parkinson's?
