Wondering if anyone from this great forum can help offer some input/advice. My husband takes Seroquel...100mg in late afternoon for agitation and 100mg at bed which has made sleep much less of an issue. I need to refill but have 2 concerns. One is weight gain...he's gained 60 - 70 pounds over the last year. The other is cost! My question is if anyone knows of a generic med which is much less expensive and might help as well as the seroquel w/out the side effect of weight gain. I plan on asking the Dr tomorrow but I like to have some input before I call in. When I mentioned weight gain to his neuro he seemed to think it was boredom/stress eating, but while never the healthiest eater, pre seroquel and pre-pd he had some weight up and downs, but it was more of a 15 - 25 fluctuation, and was from what he ate, not the frequency and quantity that he seems to eat know. Among other meds, he takes requip, which had caused internet/ebay excessive buying, but since we reduced that to 1.5 mg / day (and added 50mg Stalevo 3x daily), that problem pretty much disappeared. I thought perhaps the eating issue might also subside, but the reduction in requip didn't seem to make a difference. Hence, my conclusion that it's the seroquel. He's put on another ten since just before Christmas, and that was when we added another 50mg in the afternoon for agitation. We absolutely have to have something to control that, because prior to the seroquel (or if he doesn't take it on time), come 4pm, too much noise, commotion or disagreement w/ the myself or the kids has him yelling, ranting, etc. The tremendous weight gain exacerbates his back and arthritis problems and I'm sure will add to more health issues, but more than that, I know it's makes him feel much worse about himself and is really limiting his activity. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much...
